Build a Bond

Charity Team Bonding Events
creating educational, medical and economic opportunities
for Mayan and Mexican children and their families

The Fundación America Maya brings to corporate leaders, executive and professionals the opportunity to truly change the lives of others and themselves. Charity Team Bonding Events include Charity Bike Builds, Medical Missions, Educational Fundraisers as well as organizing groups who wish to build schools, clinics and housing for families on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. Build a Bond offers your team of executives a meaningful path to recognize their leadership strengths and weaknesses, how to utilize both of them to create a better corporate environment, and to experience true team building.

Build a Bond projects are real. Your team will work and come to know and respect Mayan craftsmen, by working side by side with them to pour concrete, lay floors, build palapas (thatched roofs), run wire, install plumbing, cut and finish wood – working side by side with them from early morning until evening, if necessary, to finish the project. Your team will truly develop their management skills and strengths through sharing, working, and giving.

Build a Bond retreats are for one week and the projects can be finished in 4-5 days, depending on the weather and the organizational skills of team leaders who will be guided by an experienced team building facilitator. If your team successfully finishes on time or early, they can participate in excursions offered on the Riviera Maya including archeological trips to Mayan ruins, such as Chichen Itza, Cobá, scuba diving, snorkeling, golf, deep sea fishing or just a day on the beautiful beaches of Playa del Carmen. Build and Bond retreats can be extended to allow more time for recreation if you wish.

Why choose to participate in Build a Bond projects?

Most of us are seeking a meaning for our existence in this modern world. We no longer live in family communities; we are caught up in a spiral of working long hours, commuting in bottlenecks and traffic jams; and we frantically pack our days with work and responsibilities. At the end of the day, if we have the time to reflect and look into ourselves, we ask of ourselves, “Why are we here?”

We may have great jobs, fantastic salaries, the latest cars, and fabulous clothes – all the trappings of success. We lead others to seek the same and yet, if we take the time to question ourselves at the end of the day, we know that there is something more to life and we have not connected to that. We ask ourselves, “How can I lead and inspire others in my corporate and family life without discovering that spiritual bond?

A hint lies in the work of Joseph Campbell. In his series with Bill Moyers on the Power of Myth, he spoke about modern societies such as the United States and explained that many of our society’s problems, especially in larger cities and corporate environments, stem from the lack of a “Rite of Passage ceremony” that ancient cultures provided for their people to initiate youth into the responsibilities and spirituality of adulthood. He felt that this was a critical missing link for those in our modern society to realize a healthy and balanced life.

Build a Bond allows one to find this missing link through our generosity of spirit and effort, though building a better place for our children and those of our Mayan community, and through belonging to the Fundación America Maya “village.”
